Right now I'm training using Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 training program. It's pretty great.
To read a thorough outline of the program you can check out t-nation's article or Bodybuiling.com's writeup.
So that's great, I'm doing 5/3/1, I like it. The twist here is three-fold (did I just blow your mind?). First, I am trying to lose weight. Second, I have a bet that I can beat my friend in a 5k sometime before April of 2011, and I my girlfriend and I have a 1 mile race in about 6 weeks.
Three times per week I train with weights, three days I jog, and one day I rest or walk. Here's an example week:
Sunday
- Press
- Concept 2 rowing intervals
Monday
- Jogging 1
Tuesday
- Deadlift
- Concept 2 rowing or 1 mile run
Wednesday
- Jogging
Thursday
- Bench
- Concept 2 rowing intervals
Friday
- Jogging
Saturday
On the next Sunday I do Squats with sprints, then on Tuesday do presses, etc.
The jogging days aren't set in stone right now. I'm just trying to build up to being able to run 3.5 miles. I can run 2 right now.
In fairness, for me, running 2 miles is like a cat playing fetch. It's just not in my nature.
In addition to all this garbage, I'm also doing intermittent fasting. More on that in a different post.
